How it works

Poor tagging is rarely unwillingness. Usually the agreement is simply missing. UTM Builder makes that agreement explicit and verifiable, before a link goes live.

1. The policy

Per channel you record which details an ad link must carry: the source, the channel, the campaign name and whatever else you need. For each detail you decide whether it may be filled in freely or only with a value from a fixed list.

Channels differ from one another. Some ad platforms fill in certain values themselves through a code you place in the link; the platform replaces that code at the moment of the click. Other channels, such as a newsletter or a partner collaboration, have no such mechanism and must be filled in manually. Your policy takes that into account per channel.

2. The working parties

You invite every party that advertises for you: external agencies, and your own team if it sets up campaigns itself. Everyone works in the same environment, each in a separated part.

An agency never sees another agency's work at the same advertiser. One agency can work for several advertisers: it uses a single login and sees, per advertiser, that advertiser's policy and links, with the role assigned to it there.

3. The check before publication

As soon as a link is built, the check looks at four things:

  • Required details that are missing.
  • Values that are not on the allowed list.
  • Capitals and spaces where your policy prescribes lowercase or hyphens.
  • Codes from an ad platform other than the chosen channel.

Whatever is off is named in plain language, together with the rule the policy sets. The builder adjusts and submits again.

4. Approval and log

A link that passes the check goes to approval. The advertiser sees what was built and approves it, or returns it with a reason.

Every step is recorded: who created the link, what the check found, who approved and when. That log is reference material for the advertiser and evidence for the agency.
